Question Mark?

So since I forgot my article on my flashdrive at home (>_>) I might as well make fun of news sources. Hey, if I can make fun of the way CNN handles the political election, I can make of of just about anything they put on.

So take a look at this headline. This was the first thing I saw when I opened the CNN home page.

First of all, if "breaking news" is now defined as some arbitrary statictic about an upcoming holiday, well, lets just say there's a reason why I don't follow news too much.

Second, there was no actual article, or even any kind of link, that came with this "news." Why is this?, I wonder. Shouldn't there be something I can click on in order to read more about this? But wait! Go back to that picture and look at the lower left corner. I even circled it in red for you: It's an advertisement.

That's right, this so called breaking news is nothing more than a ploy to get reader's attention. I don't know about other people, but it bugs me when something is made into a big deal when it's really not. Especially when there's nothing to back up how big of a deal it is.

There's my rant. And the bell to end the class just rang so the timing couldn't have been more perfect. Yay.

You know, now that I've taken a slightly closer look at my blog, I've discovered how horribly obnoxious asking for comments over and over again are. I should probably change that. Preferably into something whitty and creative. Perhaps a knock-knock joke?

Frankly, dear writer, I am offended by the analysis you place on the "breaking news" bit, when reffering to the advertisement. I'll have you know, that I am a rabid consumer, I take my news in small, five second bites, I enjoy being shocked by reality television, vicariously experiencing life through an overpaid actor blowing things up and worrying over trivialities such as what to wear. Anything that fails to influence my opinion in a major way disgusts me and falls below my standards. I find comfort in advertisements because it makes me feel like someone cares about me, if only for my money. I dream about money, and my favorite color is green. My least favorite word in the whole of my chosen language: American, is substance. I will now register a complaint. b i

Comestible, are you being sarcastic or not???? Also, I don't get the point of the advertisement. it doesn't seem to be selling anything. You're right, though, it's not breaking news. In fact, a lot of what media outlets claim is "breaking news" is not. For instance, a scheduled news conference by President Obama on a Cabinet pick who's name has been leaked for days is not "Breaking news." News stations now use breaking news as an attention-grabber rather than an actual statement of fact.
